100年目のハングルの日とハングルを広めた日本人 井上角五郎 / 100th Hangul Day and the Japanese Who Spread Hangul: Kakugoro Inoue

2026年はハングルの日制定からちょうど100周年です。韓国では盛大な祝賀行事が各地で開かれ、世宗大王が作った文字の歴史を振り返りました。実は近代にハングルを広めた功労者の一人に、日本人の井上角五郎さんがいます。

福沢諭吉先生の弟子で、朝鮮政府の顧問を務めた際、日本でハングル活字を作り、1886年に漢字とハングルを混ぜた新聞「漢城周報」を初めて発行しました。これが普及のきっかけになりました。しかし、多くの朝鮮人の方々は彼の存在をご存じないようです。そして、この初代総理福沢諭吉を暗殺した安重根を韓国では英雄となっています。日本人の感覚だとテロリストです。

拉致国家の北朝鮮と韓国とは、理解できないことが多すぎると感じることの事例の一つです。

The 100th Anniversary of Hangul Day and Kakugoro Inoue, the Japanese Man Who Helped Spread Hangul

In 2026, the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Hangul Day was marked, and grand celebrations were held in South Korea. Kakugoro Inoue, a Japanese man who helped spread Hangul in modern times, was a disciple of Yukichi Fukuzawa and served as an adviser to the Korean government. In 1886, he published the first newspaper combining Chinese characters and Hangul, helping pave the way for its wider adoption. However, many Koreans do not know who he was.

On the other hand, South Korea regards An Jung-geun as a hero, whereas from a Japanese perspective, he is seen as a terrorist. As a student, I find this difficult to understand, including the differences between South Korea and North Korea.
